Tell us your favorite memory with your dad

May 27—Father’s Day is right around the corner and now is the time for reflection.

Dayton.com and The Dayton Daily News want to know about all the wonderful times you have had with your father or what you love most about him. Your response could be featured in the Father’s Day tribute that will take place on Sunday, 18th June.

Melissa Fields and her father, George W. Schram of West Carrollton, share a passion for food. Schram returned to Ohio in 2020 and she began taking him every week to Taco Tuesday, but quickly became bored of Mexican food.

Fields told her father, “I’m not taking you to Taco Tuesday but I will take another place.” “I wanted to go to some of the restaurants on Dayton Foodies.”

Dayton Foodies Facebook page allows users to review restaurants and request restaurant recommendations. Fields began uploading pictures of her adventures and her dad who she calls “Mr. Grumpy”.

It’s hard to impress him, but some restaurants he loves include Bullwinkle’s Top Hat Bistro, Bennett’s Publical Family Sports Bar, or Sea Jax Tavern, both in Kettering.

Schram, who is 88 years old, was born in Dayton and served during the Korean War. After the war, Schram worked as an employee at McCall’s for many years until it closed.

Fields told Fields, “I really appreciate his work ethics.” “He could have just been like everyone else. Many people said that when McCall’s closed, “Well, there is no work, let’s go get unemployment,” but he said: “No, I’m going Georgia and finding a job.”

Schram worked as a printer in Georgia before retiring for more than 30 years. Fields revealed that he had a number of favorite eating spots, including diners offering southern food.

She remembered him visiting her in Georgia. She always remembered dining out. She mentioned that he went to a particular restaurant every night.

He loves to eat at restaurants. Fields explained that he was a person who loved to eat out. “Everybody knew who he was, so this was a new experience.”

Schram did not always eat with his friends when he was in Georgia. Fields expressed her joy at the opportunity to dine out with him in Dayton and to share their passion for food.

Fields said, “He’s always been a foodie.” “He loves food. He loves eating out. “He loves the interaction with workers or other people.”

Dayton.com will be sharing a meal in an upcoming story, prior to Father’s Day.
