Michelin Japan creating 3D printed future for emerging businesses

A metal-lamination facility that opened last year is collaborating with smaller and mid-sized businesses to create new products.

The new facility, named Michelin AM Atelier, is operated by Nihon Michelin Tire which, with other companies, conducts research and developments in Ota Gunma Prefecture. It combines 3D Metal Printers with additive manufacturing technology (AM), which creates objects by layering materials.

The Japanese division of the French tire maker expects to make significant contributions to the advancement of manufacturing technology, which in turn will lead to the creation of a new network of complementary businesses.
