HP Laser Printer Repair

HP printers are high-end products but not immortals. Some parts of the printer may need to be repaired or replaced after a set period of time or a number of pages have been printed. It is important to have a basic understanding of printer repair so we can identify the parts we need to replace the printer and keep it in good working order.

Checklist:

Before we can begin to repair, there are some things we must first check. These are the items.

• The printer is plugged in, and the outlet is working properly
• Paper tray is properly loaded and with the right paper
• The printer cartridge is the same as indicated in the specifications, and it is loaded properly.
• The humidity and temperature on the printer’s environment meet the specifications stated in the manual.

These conditions must be met or the problem could arise.

HP Printer Common Problems

• Jammed paper. Jammed papers can sometimes be found in printer exit and entrance points. Incorrect paper size is a common reason for paper jamming. First, open the printer’s front door to clear out any paper jam. To help push the paper free, be gentle as you pull it out.

• Printer is not communicating with computer. You can test the printer by printing a test sheet. You can print a test page if it prints correctly. Next, check the cable connecting your printer to the computer. Make sure the ends of your cable are not damaged or worn. Use the spare cable that is still available and check if the problem has disappeared. If the problem persists, uninstall the printer software. Then install it again. Also, make sure you have the latest driver installed on your computer.

• Printer is not responding. Sometimes printers freeze too. It is easy to restart a frozen printer by pushing the power button and holding it for several seconds. Wait at least 1 minute after the printer shuts down before turning it on again.

• Parts need replacement. Cartridges are the most frequently replaced parts. You may need to replace the cartridges if the print quality is not as good as you expect. Check the rollers of your paper picker for wear and tear. A paper that isn’t gripping well can be caused by worn out rollers. Exit rollers may be to blame if noises are heard at exit. It’s time to replace the exit rollers if they are worn or hardened. The transport belts can also be a problem for printers. You should check if your belts are too loose. If it is, you will need to buy a new one.

These are easy steps to help you keep your printer running. Professional help is available if the problem needs to be investigated in depth.
