Government of Canada announces over $20.8 million in funding for job creation, expansion, and access to 3D printing


The Government of Canada Seven businesses and organizations in the life sciences, manufacturing and tech sectors in Burnaby will receive 20.8 millions CAD. This money is to be used to access 3D printer technology and to create jobs.

The Canadian government says that PacifiCan The funding will enable the recipients to develop new products, improve their technology and boost sales.

The funding was announced by the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan) and the honourable Terry Beech, Minister of Citizen’s Services. Minister Sajjan, and Minister Beech, announced the funding. British Columbia Institute for Technology’s (BCIT) Centre for Applied Research and Innovation.

PacifiCan will provide funding for three programs. 1.9 Million CAD is allocated to the Regional Innovation Ecosystems, 12.9 Million CAD goes to the Business Scaleup and Productivity, and 5.9 MCAD is allocated to the Jobs and Growth Fund. PacifiCan states that it expects the funding to create 284 jobs.

While at BCIT, Ministers announced that BCIT would receive over 1.9 millions CAD to create AAMTECH, an advanced additive manufacturing prototype hub for 3D printing. This project provides local small- and medium-sized companies with access to 3D technology and expertise to allow them to produce prototypes in a variety of materials such as advanced composites (advanced metals), foods, and biomanufacturing.

The hub is expected to support 60 businesses. It will help 90 products or services reach the market, and offer training opportunities.

BCIT is expanding its support for multiple manufacturing sectors, including metals and composites. Businesses, organisations, and BCIT researchers and students now have a truly state-of-the-art space to build innovation in the 3D printing arena.”
