Company wants to build 3D printed homes in Flint Township | News

Solutioneers Investment Properties is looking to build 3D printed homes at an undeveloped intersection in River Forest subdivision.

FLINT (Mich.) – New 3D printing technology is being used by communities across the nation to build new homes.

Solutioneers Investment Properties plans to construct 3D-printed homes at an intersection in the River Forest subdivision.

Josiah O’Brien (the 3D printer project leader) stated that they are using 3D printing technology to print homes. He spoke directly to ABC 12.

The Massachusetts-based company currently owns 23 lots in the River Forest area. They plan to use 3D printing technology there to build affordable housing. They are looking to buy additional lots to construct 100 more.

The overall cost of building a house is much lower and the process is much more efficient. So, that’s how it would be beneficial to the community and it would help nay community that’s struggling with affordable housing,” said Lewis Carlton, Commercial Acqs.

River Forest subdivision 3D homes would be built from a blueprint, then processed by a 40-foot tall 3D printer.

For foundations and walls, the printer can deposit concrete or plastic layers. Plumbers will still need to complete plumbing.

Solutioneers plan to create a 4,000-foot walking path along the Flint River.

O’Brien stated, “We are committing to the community. We’re designing and building that walkway and just making it an area for the community to enjoy.”

This would be a new concept for Genesee County residents  which Tom Klee, Flint Township’s Trustee, said he has many questions about in their last board meeting on March 20.

Klee stated, “I have a lot of questions.”

The meeting raised concerns about 3D home structure, legal, fire, and police obligations prior to the building of these homes.

Klee stated, “I believe we should move from this right away.”
