Top 5 Videos: From the Floor at 3D Print Paris

We are back with another Top 5 video! If you’re reading this, it means that another week filled with new creations, revelations, and discoveries in the world of additive manufacturing has passed us by and we, as ever, stand ready to deliver you the freshest catches of the week. We’re starting off the weekend with some videos from 3D Print Paris, a 3D Printing expo that just finished in France. Then we will be moving across the Atlantic to look at local projects in the United States. And so without further ado, let’s jump right in!

Top 1: Interview With Yours Truly About 3D Printing Paris

In this 3Dnatives Video, we interview Stephane Fourrat about the importance of post-procession for small-batch manufacturing. From his perspective as a 3D printing and prototyping solutions company, he discusses this year’s exhibit at the 3D Print Paris trade show as well as the sort of finished items that have been created by LNA Prototypes. Learn more about the key stage of all 3D prints – post-processing – and why it is such an important concept for companies across the board and in different sectors. You can follow along with this video subtitled or practice your French at the comfort of your own home.

Top 2 – Fly to New Heights With 3D Printing

Trent Palmer shares a video of his FDM printer performing heavy-lifting with the aid of a diamond nozzle. Trent Palmer uses 3D-printed parts from a 3D-printer available commercially to upgrade an actual piloted prop plane. The project also includes the production of fairings for landing lights and in-cabin electronics. A handheld 3D scanner allows them to create a series covers that are stable, lightweight and most importantly aerodynamic. How much can a tiny change in a plane’s flight affect it? See for yourself!

Adam Savage’s Top 3 Tests of a 3D Pen

In this video, we are back with our old pal Adam Savage as he checks out one of the lesser talked about 3D solutions these days – a 3D printing pen. Adam Savage is a 3D printing enthusiast who is well known for guiding people from the concept to the final product. This video is no exception. He walks us through each step, starting with the unboxing of Pika3D. He also explains that 3D printer pens can be used to repair larger 3D-printed pieces. In fact, he goes over different tests including filling and fixing gaps before building by hand. Not one to miss any detail, we get to hear about a crucial factor of any pen – the comfort of the grip as well as the viability for a longer project as he demonstrates. Check out the video to see if Adam Savage approves!

Top 4: 3D printed organs to save the world

This video from Interesting Engineering will take us back to the world of medicine with the simple question: Could 3D-printed organs be the answer to the worldwide organ crisis? The 3D bioprinting field could be the solution for those waiting in hospitals to receive transplants. Its 3D scanning, customizability and rapid production times could provide solutions for those in need. This video explores a MIT program that may replace the components of a person’s heart. Check out the rest below to learn more about this fascinating journey in science and medicine!

Top 5: Detroit’s First 3D Printed Home

To round out this top five series, we stop by Detroit, Michigan where the city’s first 3D printed house is nearing the end of its construction. Many 3D-printed construction projects have been discussed before. However, we usually only see the construction stage, which is characterized by walls of extruded grey concrete. This video shows a home with smooth, colored, and varied walls, as well as variations in space and style. The unique construction method is used in the interior of the space to create accent walls. We learn about the construction process, its impact on efficiency, cost and sustainability, throughout the tour.
