Kennesaw, Ga. – Through competitive prices, high quality products, and superior customer service, Ranger Printing has maintained a loyal customer base for nearly 30 years. Central Florida’s commercial printer has recently purchased a POLAR D80 PLUS automated, high speed cutter from HEIDELBERG.
A larger sheet size, a smaller footprint
Regardless of paper availability, production schedule, or last-minute rush jobs, Ranger “delivers what we promise, when we promise it,” said Bill Lane, President of Ranger Printing. “Being true to your word goes a long way with customers.” Previously equipped with HEIDELBERG’s smaller POLAR 66 cutter, Ranger was unable to cut down larger 28 x 40 inch parent sheets for its digital presses, and with current paper shortages, the company was struggling to find the best paper to accommodate its customers’ varied needs. Ranger’s new POLAR D 80 PLUS cutter, installed in July 2022, can cut sheets up to 31.5 inches wide with a higher stack height of four inches. According to Lane, “The larger sheet sizes means we can cut a wider variety of paper types and sizes, so we are able to take on jobs that we had to turn away in the past.”
The machine has a maximum of 1,998 saved cutting sequences which can be quickly recalled for operator convenience. Paper is easier to move thanks to its ultra-smooth stainless steel table surface that has air jets. “The paper glides as opposed to having to manually lift and turn it,” said Lane. “It’s a lot easier on our hands.” The enhanced automation and ergonomic design have boosted the efficiency of both the front end of production (cutting down parent sheets) and the back end with finishing, which includes 20,000+ postcards Ranger prints and mails every week.
Ranger, which is a digital shop, has very limited floor space. Due to its small footprint, The POLAR D 80 PLUS was an ideal replacement for the POLAR66. Ranger was impressed that the new POLAR could fit in the same spot on the floor as the old cutter. Upon deciding to purchase another POLAR, Lane said, “We had another cutter from a different manufacturer previously, but it wasn’t anywhere near the quality. We like the product reliability and the availability and level of service we get from HEIDELBERG.”
