2 Ludhiana men nabbed with Rs 20 lakh in counterfeit currency in Jalandhar : The Tribune India

Two individuals were arrested Saturday by the police in connection with printing and circulating fake currency notes. Police also recovered fake currency worth Rs 20 lakh, a colour printer, and a car (PB01B-3885).

Ram Singh (42), who is a resident at Khanna Khurd in Ludhiana, was identified as the accused, along with Pawandeep Singh (28), who is alias Deep and a resident at Paddi in Ludhiana.

S Boopathi was joined by Jaskaranjit Sing Singh Teja, DCP, Investigation. Inderjit Sing, the in charge of the antinarcotics cell, stated that he had received a tip off that the suspects were involved in the printing of fake currency and bribing people with fake cash. “Acting on which, the team of anti-narcotics cell along with other police officials laid a naka near GNA chowk in Jalandhar Cantt, and the accused persons were stopped for checking. Fake currency amounting to Rs 20 lakh was recovered from a black bag in their car,” they added.

Both of them are known habitual offenders. Pawandeep’s case under the NDPS Act is pending. Ram Singh’s cases under different sections of the IPC are already being registered at Ludhiana and Khanna police stations.

“The accused have been arrested under Sections 489A, 489C, 489D and 420 of the IPC. The court granted the accused two-day remand to the police. The further investigation in the case is under way,” Boopathi, said.
